Races with an average speed around 2,000 mpm … we dislike them and our pigeons hate them even more. The weather forecast clearly indicated these circumstances so we anticipated on this extreme windy weather. For the national Chateauroux (526km) race no youngsters were basketted and from our 15 best yearlings only one was basketted. We had no losses but had three hens who returned with severe injuries…

We had as super racing weekend last Saturday. It was probably the most busy day of the racing season with three scheduled races: Pont Ste.-Maxence and the national Bourges (479km) and Tulle (657km). The pigeons had to deal with mainly headwinds on their way back home. In previous article you could already read about our fantastic Pont Ste.-Maxence result. Here you can read about the other two races. We only sent 4 youngsters to the national Bourges race so all the focus was on the old birds for these two races.

It was a rather calm weekend for our loft. We only entered birds on the middle distance race Chevrainvilliers (354km). The pigeons had to stay two nights in the basket because the weather on the first was not good enough to release them. And yes, also on this race our young birds showed that they can easily win first prizes.

Our beautiful checkered hen “Fanta”(B18-6020277) won this weekend 2° fast. National Issoudun (504km) 19,713 pigeons. The pigeons had to stay in the basket during 3 nights. It is an incredible performance and we are very proud of her.

Mixed feelings. We are feeling very proud and very disappointed at the same time. Our beautiful checkered hen “Fanta”(B18-6020277) won today 2° fast. National Issoudun (504km) 19,646 pigeons. The pigeons had to stay in the basket during 3 nights. It is an incredible performance and we are very proud of her. But, it could have been even better. She lost a lot of time upon arrival. She kept flying around the loft with a stranger pigeon and this costed her the national victory. This is very unfortunate but that is a part of pigeon racing and we have to accept it. Congratulations to our friend and the well deserved national winner, Rik Hermans!

Last weekend the provincial Fay-aux-Loges (402km) race was flown. The strong wind from the Northwest and the cloudy weather made it a tough race. Our old birds did a great job. We had many birds in the head of the race and the prize percentage was also really good. We started even with a prize in the provincial top 10 however almost all the early birds could be found in the Southeastern part of our province. Our young birds flew unfortunately less sensational than the weeks before. They paid their lack of experience cash. We still started with the 3° prize and had more early birds in the race but the prize percentage was not good enough.

A race of 672km (Limoges) and tough weather … we know it is hard to beat our pigeons in these circumstances. They did again an amazing job. Our first three arrivals are three grandchildren of “Elektro”(B08-6174630)!

After several weeks of tailwind races, our favorite kind of weather was finally there! Hot weather and strong headwinds … in these circumstances our pigeons can easily make the difference. Our youngsters flew their first middle distance race of the season. Before they only did 2x 104km and 1x 208km. Our youngsters dominated the entire race. They flew even faster than all the old birds and yearlings.

Our pigeons did again very well this weekend! We sent them to provincial Argenton (555km) race. They dominated the race in both categories, old birds and yearlings.

The weather circumstances were not easy past Saturday. It was the first hot race of the season. It was the first time as well that the pigeon had to fly more than 500km. The wind direction was changing on the way back home. The first 200km the pigeons had to deal with headwinds. Once they were past Paris the wind changed to the South. We were not expecting provincial top prizes as with these circumstances the winners were to be expected close to the French border. Our pigeon knocked down the competition though!

There were two races for us this weekend: Chevrainvilliers (354km) and the national Bourges (479km) race. It was again a difficult racing weekend for the pigeons. On their way back home the pigeons had to deal with heavy rain showers. In France the birds had to fly against the Northwest wind. Once they crossed the Belgian borders the wind direction completely shifted to the South. Because of this sudden change the national Bourges race had not the result as people had expected. Our birds did again a good job, like they are doing already since the start of the season.

The national Bourges (479km) race was a tough one. The birds had to deal with scattered rain showers on their way back home. In France the wind was blowing from the Northwest. Once they reached Belgium the wind was blowing from different directions. These circumstances had as a result that the early national birds were spread over different provinces. We were happy about the result. We sent 9 old birds to the national Bourges race and two of them won a prize in the national top 40 against 24,078 pigeons! One of them was our first nominated bird. We won 31° + 40° National Bourges (479km) against 24,053 pigeons!

We checked the weather forecast almost 100 times this week. The predicted weather for the race day was not good. After this careful consideration we decided to leave a considerable part of our racing team at home this weekend. The remaining birds flew the middle distance race Chevrainvilliers (354km). Afterwards it seems that we made the correct decision. We heard that from the national Vierzon race this weekend a lot of birds are still missing. Knowing that our birds do not love those fast races with mainly wind from the South, they did a good job on the middle distance race Chevrainvilliers (354km). They scored a very high prize percentage and 7 birds in the top 50. If this is our ‘worst’ result of the season, we will have had an amazing year!

The race this weekend was Melun (310km). This flight was again a tough race for the pigeons. The pigeons had to deal with rather strong headwinds on their way back home. The average velocity of the first pigeons was not faster than 1,250 mpm. It was the perfect occasion for our birds to demonstrate their qualities. For the fourth weekend in a row we managed to win the first prize. This time our racing cocks were the most dominant. The week before the racing hens were the most leading sex. It is a joy to have such a talented racing team.

Also on the first middle distance of the year our pigeons showed their class. It was a tough race with scattered rain showers and headwinds. Especially in an early stage of the season these are demanding circumstances for racing pigeons. For the third week in a row one of our birds won the first prize! Also the rest of the team showed their good form.

The birds had to stay in the basket for two nights for the Noyon (208km) race. The weather on Sunday was not good enough to release the birds. They were finally released Monday afternoon. The weather circumstances were perfect: sunny weather and a light head wind. It was a nice view to see them arrive!

Last weekend we had the final race of the season. We entered our pigeons on the national Chateauroux (526km) flight. Our birds ended their amazing season in style with no less than 12 national top 90 positions! Too bad all our first arrivals came from the opposite direction, else the result could have been even more impressive!

We were not thinking about a top result today on the Blois (462km) race. The birds had to deal with upcoming tailwinds. As we race at the shortest distance of our club, we did not have the best location at all. Our birds showed however that they are very hard to beat this year. They crushed the competition. We won no less than the 8 (!) first prizes. We beat famous names like Geerinckx, Van Dyck, Roodhooft, Wouters, De Scheemaecker, Van Gastel etc.

Yesterday we wrote about our top result on the national Argenton (555km) race. The same day we had the middle distance race Melun (310km) and our results on this race might be even more impressive. We split our young birds team in two and sent them to two different federations. Twice they crushed the competition. We have such a strong young birds team, it is a real delight to have them on our racing loft. In Union Antwerpen they won the 11 (!) first prizes, in the ZAV Federation federation they won the 7 (!) first prizes. Please keep in mind that birds had to deal with headwinds from start till finish.

We had again a super racing day. The weather circumstances were tough with headwinds from start till finish. On the middle distance race Melun (310km) our team knocked down again all the competition. It was a super performance from our young birds.. The official results will be published tonight or tomorrow. More about this later. Also on the national Argenton (555km) race we had a top result. We had no less than 3 birds in the national top 13. What is also really remarkable is that 17 of our 23 entered old birds fly in the first 10% of the race! The two youngsters the fly in the national top 70 are both grandchildren again of our super breeder “Elektro”(B08-6174630).

We entered our young birds this weekend on the middle distance race Pont Ste-Maxence (250km). It was a mix of experienced and ‘fresh’ youngsters. Our youngsters have been super dominant this season. The weather circumstances were every time very tough. This time the birds had tailwinds on their way home so we were curious if they could maintain their dominance on a fast race. After all, we race at one of the shortest distances of our federation and this is not an advantage when the average speed is high. Our team’s performance was again amazing! We entered a big bunch but their result was really impressive.
