At the end of November we flew to China to visit some of our clients. It was a very interesting and inspiring trip. The number of fanciers who have top results with off springs of Hok Jos Vercammen pigeons is really impressive! Our most popular birds over there are “Elektro”(B08-6174630), new superstar “Mustang”(B14-6175237) and of course … “Barco”(B01-6387350). It’s really hard to explain how famous “Barco” is amongst Chinese fanciers. A Chinese pigeon breeder described him as: “Barco is the Lionel Messi of the pigeon sport!”.
Legendary "Barco" We will give you now a concrete example that illustrates the ‘rise’ of “Barco” in China. In 2004 we sent a baby of “Barco” to the Wutaishan One Loft Race in China. That time “Barco” was still an unknown bird. It was only his second year on the breeding loft. This child to “Barco”, the blue cock B04-6058327, won in the final race the 2° prize! The racing distance was appr. 500km and there were 920 birds remaining for the final flight. On the auction afterwards this bird was bought by the Chinese fancier Mr. Wei Tang. He could impossibly know that this buy would turn out to be the best investment he had ever done!
Lars, Mr. Tang and Mr. Lin This son to “Barco” became a massive breeder at his loft. In 2008 a direct child to this pigeon won the 2° prize in the final race of the Wily One Loft Race. The birds had to fly 500km. A grandchild to B04-6058327, the son of “Barco”, won the 1° prize in the final race of the Bo Cai One Loft Race. Also here the distance of the final race was 500km. It was a very hard race and this bird from the “Barco” line was able to beat all the competitors. Mr. Tang doesn’t only send birds to One Loft Races, he also participates to the traditional races. In 2012 he had the 5th Ace-pigeon of the Wuhan Region. They make a ranking of the best birds on the races from 200 till 600km. A grandson of B04-6058327 ended up as number five. A daughter to this Ace-pigeon won this year 100,000 RMB (+/- 13,000 Euro) for Mr. Tang. In 2013 he had the 6th Ace-pigeon of the Wuhan Region. It was again a grandchild to B04-6058327! No wonder that Mr. Tang has become a big fan of the “Barco” family!
The most impressive result with a Hok Jos Vercammen pigeon can be found at the loft of Mr. Zhu. He is one of the most famous pigeon racers in China. He is one of the key members of the Pioneer Loft in Beijing. This ‘VIP’ club is very well known because the best racers of China have a racing loft in this area. According to our information this bird has won the most prize money a bird has ever won in history! Just to be clear: all this money is for Mr. Zhu and not for us. (lol)

If you sum this up, you come to the conclusion that the checkered hen BN2014-04688 has won 3,400,000 EUR for Mr. Zhu, an amount that has never been equalled before! Three million and four hundred thousand Euro … you can call it a world record! How did the pigeon won this amount? At the Pioneer Loft the whole system is built around the seek for the most consistent pigeons … the Ace-birds. In a relatively short period they organise different races. Four of them are +500km flights. The intensive racing program makes it very difficult for the birds. Only the strongest birds will prevail. The checkered hen CN2014-04688 was one of the superstars this year. That’s why she has won such an amount of money.
This picture was taken during the auction of the Pioneer pigeons in Beijing What is the origin of this pigeon? The mother of this bird is a 100% Hok Jos Vercammen pigeon. Her ringnumber is B12-6196238. As a youngster she won 1° Dourdan (366km) 2,489 pigeons in Union Antwerpen. B12-6196238 is a daughter to our top hen “Elodie”(B11-6282062) who won a.o. 1° S.-national Blois (462km) 1,108 pigeons. If you take a closer look to the pedigree of B12-6196238, you’ll notice that the “Barco”(B01-6387350) line is present twice! “Elodie” is a granddaughter to “Beckham”(B01-6387174). The mother to “Elodie” is a half-sister to “Elektro”(B08-6174630). We had the honour to hold the checkered hen CN2014-04688 and we must say that she is an amazing pigeon! Impressive muscles, a strong wing, silky feathers … she has got it all! She is a real lookalike of her mother B12-6196238 and grandmother “Elodie”(B11-6282062).
Lars holding CN2014-04688 ... this hen won 3,400,000 EUR for Mr. Zhu ... a world record! Mr. Zhu also had the 35th Ace-pigeon at the Pioneer loft. The dark checkered pigeon CN2014-04701 won no less than 800,000 CNY (+/- 105,000 EUR)! This bird is a grandchild to our fantastic breeder “Elektro”(B08-6174630).
The breeding references of "Elektro"(B08-6174630) all over the world are really impressive Of course Mr. Zhu was delighted with the introduction of the Hok Jos Vercammen pigeons at his loft. Not only for the money that he has won, but also because the success followed only a few months after he put the Vercammen birds on the breeding loft. According to Mr. Zhu this is ‘very rare’.
We want to congratulate Mr. Zhu, Mr. Wei and all the other fanciers who have top results with Vercammen pigeons! The greatest thing about pigeon sport is to have top results at your own loft, but people who have great results with your strain of pigeons comes really close!

One of the very best fanciers in Poland is undoubtedly Marek Trzaska. You can call him for sure a phenomenon. Especially in recent years his results have been outstanding. According to Mr. Trzaska this rise can be explained by the further introduction of Vercammen pigeons at his loft. Currently his breeding loft is completely focused on the Hok Jos Vercammen birds and the results have never been better.
Marek Trzaska One of the most remarkable pigeons at his breeding loft is the checkered hen "Gold Medal"(PL-0264-09-8156). She was crowned as best pigeon from Europe on the Olympiad in Nitra 2013. This fantastic hen is a 50% Vercammen pigeon, bred from the old “Panter”(B86-6056506) lines. The hen beat all her competitors with the following series of results: 1st Olympiad Bird category H Nitra 2013! (lowest coefficient in Europe) 1° prize (343km) against 5,442 p. 3° prize (365km) against 4,993 p. 9° prize (365km) against 4,582 p. 3° prize (514km) against 2,977 p. 1° prize (365km) against 4,173 p. 2° prize (365km) against 1,730 p. Of course these results are sensational! Especially when you realize that she won these six results in less than two months!

In the summer of 2014 the results of the young birds team of Marek Trzaska were one of the major topics in the Polish pigeon world. His young birds really smashed the competition like no other team ever did before. Here you will find two of his results that will explain you why we call his results ‘smashing’: Ostrzeszów (120km) 5,874 pigeons: 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, 9, 10, 11, 12, 13, 14, 15, 16, 17, 18, 19, 20, 21, 22, 23, 24, 25,... We will present you now some of his finest young birds. The blue white flight cock PL-0264-14-9078 will be part of the Polish squad for the Olympiad 2015 in Budapest. The father of this pigeon is a direct son to “Special One”(B08-6144476). “Special One” is a child to our legendary breeder “Barco”(B01-6387350). This means that a great-grandchild to “Barco” will be present at the upcoming Olympiad! The racing records of this youngster are really amazing. He would have won 4 first prizes against thousands of pigeons if he wouldn’t be beaten by loftmates. Now it are ‘just’ 2 first prizes against a massive number of pigeons. Two other eye-catchers are the twins PL-0264-14-8949 and PL-0264-14-8950. These two cocks are grandchildren to our star breeder “Elektro”(B08-6174630). If they would not have been beaten by loft mates on the races, they would be probably part of the Olympiad 2015 team as well! The 1st National Champion Long Distance Young birds KBDB 2014 thanks this success to the introduction of the Hok Jos Vercammen pigeons. The last national race of the season was Gueret (590km) on the 7th of September. That did not mean however that the Belgian racing season was come to an end. There were still the traditional 100km races but also a special series of races was organized, the ‘Tour of Belgium’. Each week the birds were released on a completely different location. It could be at the seaside, which is completely in the western part of Belgium, or in Limburg, which is completely in the eastern part of Belgium. There are four stages in the Tour of Belgium. You don’t know in advance where the birds will be released. After all the birds are basketted, the place of release is determined through a lottery. This year the four races were the following: - Oostende - Maaseik - Tongeren - Cognelée
On this map you can clearly see that the birds had to fly from different directions We entered on these races a bunch of very unexperienced youngsters. They flew their very first short distance only in September! By flying the races of the tour of Belgium they gain a lot of experience in a short time frame. Every year we keep the very best youngsters on this races for our old birds racing team. This method pays off! Our super racer “Joker”(B12-6196314) has been raced for instance on the tour of Belgium as a baby! To this group we added some youngsters who flew the national races but who did not excel yet on these nationals. After those four races the best pigeon is determined. This pigeon is the 1st Ace-pigeon of the Tour of Belgium! This bird will be for sure not a lucky shot! It had to fly early from four races, from different directions! This is an over-all completion which means that youngsters, yearlings and old birds are flying against each other and can become 1st Ace-pigeon. Our youngster B14-6175325 was crowned as 1st Ace-pigeon of the Tour of Belgium! This title is even more impressive when you know that she flew her very first short distance in September. She beat all the way more experienced old and young birds!

Our newest superstar "Mustang"(B14-6175237) Also the siblings of B14-6175325 have flown very well. Her full sister B14-6175036 won for instance this year 1° Gien (410km) 1,028 pigeons / 14° Provincial Gien 6,446 pigeons. It was a tough race with headwinds. Another sister is “Ines”(B12-6196066). This hen has got different top records. Her most remarkable performance was on the last two national races of the season 2013. She won in just one week 9° National Gueret (590km) 2,656 pigeons and 17° National Nevers (476km) 2,918 pigeons.
Also "Ines"(B12-6196066) is a sister to the 1st Ace-pigeon Of course B14-6175325 will be in our racing team for next year. The same counts for het nest-sister B14-6175324 who has also flown early prizes on the Tour of Belgium. It’s important for them to start the season early so that they can gain more experience.

Breeding couples are often called ‘golden breeding couples’. Too often. This kind of super breeding couples are rare. There are only a few couples who breed real winners, generation after generation. We think our breeding “Bolo”(B06-6270152) x “Polina”(B08-6174628) is such a super breeding couple. And we will tell you now why.
"Bolo"(B06-6270152) and "Polina"(B08-6174628) “Bolo” and “Polina” were coupled for the first time in January 2009. Their very first baby was “Aladdin”(B09-6248081). It was immediately a bulls eye shot! “Aladdin” won 1° fast. National Bourges (479km) 64,621 pigeons! Also the two babies of the second breeding round flew top prizes. We realised we had a very promising breeding couple here. Of course we had to wait and see how the descendants of the second and third generation would perform. Now, five years later, we can say that the “Aladdin” line has had a very strong impact. The descendants of “Bolo” and “Polina” do not only fly well on the 450km races … but also on the fast 200km races … and even on the hard 700km flights! It is really an all-round family. What type of birds are “Bolo” and “Polina” and what is the story behind them? “Bolo” is a rather big bird with a white eye. He was a good racer but as a breeder he is much more dominant. We decided to move him to the breeding loft after the racing season 2008. We needed to find a suitable partner, preferably a small to middle sized hen with a yellow eye. We thought that coupling him with blue white flight hen B08-6174628 could be good idea. “Polina”(B08-6174628) herself never participated to the races. She was born in March 2008. Being a daughter of upcoming breeding icon “Leeuw”(B03-6277418) from Wouters, we decided to move her directly to the breeding loft. This was a move we never regretted! How do the children from “Bolo” x “Polina” look like? They don’t look all the same. Some of them are medium sized, others are smaller or bigger birds. The colour of the children varies from blue to blue white flight. The eye colour can be yellow or white. Below you can find a short round-up of the breeding results of “Bolo” and “Polina”. We only mentioned the best children and grandchildren, otherwise it would lead us too far. It was a risk because we know that her babies with “Bolo” are flying super. We bred four babies from “Capo” x “Polina” and raced them. They flew some very nice results and they will all be in next year’s racing team. We have a good feeling that these four children will fly national top results next year. Let’s keep our fingers crossed!

Over the last couple of weeks there have been some rumours in the Belgian pigeon world about doping at some lofts. Today we received the result of the doping control from a few weeks ago. It was already the second control this year! As we expected, there were no forbidden products in the samples of our pigeons. The anti-doping agency checks our pigeons almost every year. We see it as a form of appreciation: it means that our results must be very good!

Past weekend the penultimate national race of the season, La Souterraine (593km), took place. We entered our racing hens and a part of our young birds team. These hens are no longer motivated through the widowhood system. They now have a nest with (little) babies. Our first birds were just arrived when a heavy rain showers started. Lots of our birds arrived soaking wet. These rain showers were quite local. In the eastern part of Belgium the rain started for instance much later. We are convinced that, if the rain came one hour later, our prize percentage would be even much higher! Our birds did again a wonderful job. We have no less than 8 national top 50 positions and 11 national top 100 positions! Our pigeons won the following results: National 3,184 old birds: 7, 21, 22, 32, 44, 47, 66, 72, 96, 106,… 20/33 National 18,588 youngsters: 26, 42,… 27/68
Our first old bird was “Doha”(B12-6196004). This dark hen is a bird with proven track record. Last year she was for instance entered on a very tough Nevers (476km) race. She won 4° National Nevers (476km) 2,918 pigeons and 2° National zone (beaten by a loftmate). Her father is a full brother to “Aladdin”(B09-6248081), 1° fast. National Bourges (479km) 64,621 pigeons. Her mother is “Dina”(B08-6144028). “Dina” is really a special hen. She won herself 8° National Limoges (640km) 16,893 pigeons, she is a daughter to our basic breeder “Barco”(B01-6387350) AND she is a top breeding hen. She is for instance mother to "Jonge Panter”(B09-6248211), 2° fast. The mother of this pigeon is a daughter to our superbreeding couple “Elektro”(B08-6174630) x “Gloria”(B06-6270117). It is the same coupling (son “Barco” x daughter “Elektro” and “Gloria”) as our new superstar “Mustang”(B14-6175237), 1° fast. National Chateauroux (526km) 33,018 pigeons!
Our first old bird and youngster are both grandchildren to "Barco"(B01-6387350)! Our second youngster was B14-6175141. She wins 42° National La Souterraine (593km) 18,588 pigeons. Big mistakes from the organisation on national Tours race |

In previous article you could read about our super results on Argenton (555km). This was however not the only race on which we had super results. The other race last weekend was Souppes-sur-Loing (357km). On this race our ‘youngest’ youngsters were entered. These youngsters fly week after week amazing results. This weekend the famous national Bourges (479km) race took place. It is probably the most famous race in the world. Five years ago we made history by winning 1° + 2° fast. National Bourges against 64,621 pigeons, something which was never been done before! The Bourges race will therefore always be a special race to us. This edition became a fast race with a wind blowing from the South (tailwind). This kind of race is normally not the specialty of our birds. They did however a great job. On the national level the early birds were spread out all over the country. We started with the 1° Provincial 902 p. / 5° National Bourges (479km) 8,005 pigeons! Our first arrival was our top racer “Joker”(B12-6196314). He wins 1° Provincial 902 p. / 5° National Bourges (479km) 8,005 pigeons! As a young bird he only flew the races of the ‘tour of Belgium’. As a yearling he first experienced the national races and at the end of the season he already showed his potential by winning 7° National Issoudun (504km) against 5,670 pigeons. His father is a full brother to “Aladdin”(B09-6248081), 1° fast. National Bourges (479km) 64,621 pigeons. Past weekend we entered birds on three different races: the national race Jarnac (697km), the provincial race Gien (410km) and the short distance race Noyon (208km). We will start with the provincial race Gien (410km). It was the last race before the first national race of the year for youngsters, Bourges (479km). It was absolutely necessary for our youngsters to fly this provincial race. Our youngsters did not participate to a lot of races because of the bad weather in the month of July. Gien was a tough race. The birds needed to stay two nights in the basket. If you combine this with headwinds, a difficult race for youngsters is the result. Our youngsters flew a sensational result. Our pigeons won the following result: South Antwerp Federation 1,028 youngsters: 1, 2, 7, 9, 14, 15, 19, 20, 36, 38, 41, 47, 51, 59, 62, 66, 67, 70, 76, 78, 85, 94,... 42/76
On the provincial level we started with the 14° and 23° prize against 6,446 pigeons. Our first pigeon was the blue hen B14-6175036. She is a full sister to our super hen “Ines”(B12-6196066). Last year she won for instance in just one week time 9° National Gueret (590km) 2,656 pigeons and 17° National Nevers (476km) 2,918 pigeons! There was also one national race this weekend, Jarnac (697km). The race should be released on Saturday but, because of heavy fog in Jarnac that day, the race was one day later. It was a bad race. On the way back home, the pigeons had to deal with heavy thunderstorms. Our top hen “Tiga”(B11-6282212) flew again a top prize. She was the 1° fastest bird in St. Job against 130 pigeons (provincial results is not known yet). She might have a position in the national top 100. “Tiga” is really an amazing pigeon with super results. Of course she was our first nominated bird on this race.

Today we received the result of the doping control from a few weeks ago. As we expected, no forbidden products were discovered. The anti-doping agency checks our pigeons almost every year. We see it as a form of appreciation: it means that our results must be very good!

In part one you could read about our sensation result on the national race Montelimar (737km). There was also another national race, Guéret (590km). Because of the bad weather this race was not liberated on Saturday but on Monday, which meant four nights of basket for the pigeons instead of two. This made it a hard race for the pigeons. We entered 14 birds on this race (six old birds and eight yearlings). We started with the 3° Provincial Guéret (590km) 1,562 pigeons / 14° National Guéret (590km) 9,754 pigeons! Our first bird was the blue hen B13-6026233, our second nominated pigeon. She wins the 14° National Guéret against 9,754 pigeons. She is a very good performer. We won for instance in the beginning of this year 1° + 2° + 3° Sourdun (305km) against 1,051 pigeons. She was only beaten by two loftmates! B13-6026233 is once again a granddaughter to our superbreeding couple “Elektro”(B08-6174630) x “Gloria”(B06-6270117).

There a light wind blowing from the east to northeast, which means headwinds. Our pigeons did again a very good job by winning different early prizes and scoring a high prize percentage. We will start with the national Montlucon (555km) race. Our birds who were entered on Poitiers (617km) last week, stayed at home so a completely different team flew the Montlucon race. They did it perfect. We entered only 13 old birds and six of them flew in the provincial top 53! We entered only 14 yearlings and three of them won a prize in the provincial top 20! We had the same bad luck as last week, our first arrival should have won the first prize instead of the third! A big hawk was flying over the loft when our first pigeon arrived. She didn’t dare to land and we lost more than two minutes before she landed. Too bad, she would have won the first prize! It was by the way our first nominated bird. Winning a first prize with your first nominated bird is always something special. This bird was our checkered hen B14-6175027. Last week she was our first nominated as well on the race from Noyon (208km). On this race she was also in the head of the race and grabbed the money! B14-6175027 is bred from a son to “Barco”(B01-6387350) coupled to a daughter of our superbreeding couple “Elektro”(B08-6174630) x “Gloria”(B06-6270117). This young hen is doing it great so far, also on the training races she was always in the top three of our arrivals. She is for sure a bird to keep a close eye on!

Past weekend was a very busy one, full of races. There were no less than four races: the national races Poitiers (617km) and Cahors (776km) on the one hand and the races Sourdun (304km) and Noyon (208km) on the other hand. The weather circumstances were hard. There was a strong headwind blowing from the north to northeast. There were no excuses. Top pigeons in top condition would be in the head of the race. On the national level most of the early pigeons would be in the fore fly. After all, living 100km closer to the place of release makes a big difference with strong headwinds. First we will discuss the national race from Poitiers (617km). It was a very tough race, especially for yearlings. The first birds had velocities below 1,100 mpm! Our pigeons won the followings results: Club St. Job 213 old birds: 2, 8, 14, 15, 19, 23, 25,… 11/13 Provincial 1,575 old birds: 11,… 11/13 Club St. Job 394 yearlings: 1,... 11/21 Provinciaal 2.011 yearlings: 16,… 10/21 Our first pigeon was, just like last week, our super hen “Sophie”(B11-6282165). Only seven days before she won the 10° Provincial Chateauroux (526km) against 1,958 pigeons, now she wins the second prize from Poitiers in our strong club St. Job. On the national level she wins the 86° National Poitiers (617km) against 12,379 pigeons. This is a very good performance, knowing that most of the birds in the national top 100 are located in the fore fly. “Sophie” was born in 2011 so this means that 2014 is her fourth racing season. If you consider this long period, there will be probably no better and more consistent birds in Belgium than “Sophie”! Last year “Sophie” was 1st Ace-pigeon semi-long distance in our strong club St. Job!

This weekend we had the first two national races of the season, Bourges (479km) and Limoges (675km). The weather circumstances were not so easy. During the day the headwinds became stronger and stronger. The national race from Limoges (675km) was a very hard one. Our first bird flew over 10.5 hours! We entered 11 birds on this race and 9 of them won a prize! We started with the 1° prize against 367 birds in our club St. Job and with the 3° Provincial against 1,417 birds. Our first bird was “Turbo”(B12-6196094). This beautiful blue cock flies his best results in very hard circumstances. Last year he won for instance the first prize from Salbris (454km). This is very nice achievement, knowing that, because of the upcoming headwinds, most of the early prize cards were at lofts who race 50 to 100km less than us! “Turbo” is a direct son to one of our best and most famous pigeons of the last decade, namely “Beauty”(B05-6234009). “Beauty” won as a baby 2° fast. National Argenton (555km) against 30,045 pigeons and developed later on into a fantastic breeding hen. The father of “Turbo” is “Spartacus”(B08-617636). “Spartacus” is on his turn a son to famous “Leeuw”(B03-6277418) from Wouters. Therefore he is closely related to our superstar “Aladdin”(B09-6248081), 1° fast. National Bourges (479km) 64,621 pigeons.

The other national race was Bourges (479km). On the national level no less than 46,721 pigeons were basketted (22,654 old birds and 24,067 yearlings). Only the national top 35 has been published, but we will probably start with +/- 110° national. Our pigeons own the following result: Against 624 old birds: 7, 8, 13, 17, 19, 37, 38,… 17/21
Our first bird was the dark cock B12-6196234. He is a very good racer. On the first semi-long distance race of the season, Vierzon (476km), he won a top ten position as well. He is a grandson to “Beckham”(B01-6387174) and “Siri”(B06-6411619). Our second bird was our first nominated bird, the blue hen “Tiga”(B11-6282212). “Tiga” is a direct daughter to “Siri”(B06-6411619) and a granddaughter to “Barco”(B01-6387350). “Tiga” is one of our best performers. She has got a long list of top records. Especially on the harder races she is always in front. She was also early on Vierzon two weeks ago and grabbed all the money!

It was a difficult race for our yearlings and it was a bit our own fault. The last six weeks, we kept them three times at home. In the beginning of the season this is no good schedule. The birds lacked rhythm to win absolute top prizes. It is something we have learned for the future. Nevertheless, we won 31 prizes of 59 entered birds. Starting from now our yearlings are ready to fly top prizes on the national races! Our first yearling was the lovely blue hen B13-6026037. She was also our first yearling from Vierzon (476km) two weeks ago. She is a granddaughter to “Barco”(B01-6387350) and to the superbreeding couple “Elektro”(B08-6174630) x “Gloria”(B06-6270117).

This weekend the semi-national race Vierzon (476km) took place. The weather circumstances were really difficult. The wind was blowing from the North-East, which means headwinds. The temperature rose to > 20°C. For our pigeons it was the last race before the first national races of the season, Bourges (479km) and Limoges (675km), take off. Our pigeons won the followings result: Against 627 old birds: 2, 4, 5, 6, 8, 9, 14, 15, 17, 17, 21, 22, 23, 23, 25, 26, 27, 28, 29, 35, 39, 41,... 31/36
No less than 23 pigeons won a prize in the first 10%! On the semi-national level we will start with the 27° prize against 9,950 pigeons. It was a very difficult race for yearlings in general. The combination of a lack of experience and the fact that they did not fly a lot the weeks before (1 middle distance race and 2 short distance races), made it not an easy race for them. Nevertheless, we regard this race as the perfect preparation for the national Bourges race that will be flown in two weeks. For the first time this season our pigeons had to stay in the basket during two nights. Our yearlings won the following result: Against 306 yearlings: 6, 9, 10, 14, 16, 20, 23, 29, 32, 34, 36, 37, 39, 40, 44, 46, 49,… 28/62 Our first pigeon was “Rocky”(B12-6196295). We are expecting a lot from him this racing season. His mother “Tiga”(B11-6282212) was also in the head of this race!

He is a grandson to “Beckham”(B01-6387174). In two weeks the national race Limoges (675km) will be organised. Our plan was to enter “Lotus”(B12-6196084) and “Rocky”(B12-6196295) as first and second nominated. On this race from Vierzon they won the 2° and 5° prize, so it was certainly a good rehearsal!

Past weekend it was time for the first middle distance race of the season, Sourdun (305km). The weather predictions for Saturday were really hard. Strong headwinds were predicted. In this type of weather people see us a big favourites for the race. Of course (and luckily), pigeon racing is no sport you can predict in advance. You always have to wait and see. Our pigeons flew an amazing result and proved that they are very difficult to beat in such cirumstances. Our pigeons won the following top result in federation ‘South Antwerp’ (ZAV): Against 1,051 yearlings: 1, 2, 3, 7, 9, 19, 26, 29, 36, 39, 58, 59, 60, 61, 68, 73, 76, 79, 80, 92, 94,... 42/66 Against 678 old birds: 8, 11, 19, 31, 32, 38, 39, 43, 44, 51, 54, 60, 63, 69, 70, 71, 72, 74,... 28/38 So we won against more than 1,000 yearlings the 1°, 2° and 3° prize! We had five birds in the top ten. Take also a good look at our prize percentages! To proof that it was a hard race, here the average speed of our three first birds: 1,203 mpm, 1,184 mpm and again 1,184 mpm. The first prize was won by our first nominated bird, “Lexus”(B13-6026091). He won this first prize with 4 minutes lead … against his own loftmates! It is still a special feeling to beat, in hard weather circumstances, all the contestants with your first nominated bird. “Lexus” is really a super promising bird. Actually, he should have already won two first prizes as a youngster … only he was two times beaten by his own loftmates!

This morning we received a remarkable phone call. A Taiwanese fancier won a big amount of money with a pigeon from our strain. The winning bird is a grandchild to our superbreeder “Salgo”(B07-6221050)!
Top breeder "Salgo"(B07-6221050) Taiwanese pigeon racing is often regarded as one of the most difficult in the world. Pigeons need to fly at the age of only six months hard races over the sea. Flying 300km over the water before reaching the mainland is no rarity for the Taiwanese youngsters. “Salgo”(B07-6221050) is one of our top breeders. His children and grandchildren are excellent racers at our loft. Also on others lofts his off springs perform well. You can ask for instance famous champion Dirk Van Dijck. Three of his very best 2013 youngsters are grandchildren to our “Salgo”! To conclude we want to give you one more interesting fact about “Salgo”. “Pinocchio”(B98-6210287), the legendary bird of Houben, was a 50% Vercammen pigeon and is closely related to “Salgo”!

Before the new racing season starts, we want to look back one more time to our best race of the season 2013.
On the 5th of September 2013 we entered our birds for the last national race of the season, Gueret (590km). After two days they were released. We had entered a group of young birds and our racing hens. For this race our hens were motivated through the nest system. They all had babies of about eight days old. We entered 32 old birds on this race. The birds were released at 9 am and the first birds flew about seven hours. These were the first arrivals of our 32 racing hens (on an almost 600km race!): 15.58 16.00 16.05 16.08 16.13 16.13 16.14 16.15 16.17 16.18 16.18 16.19 16.19 16.20 These arrivals resulted in the following stunning national result: Gueret (590km) Some facts about this race: - We won the first + second national - We had four pigeons in the national top ten - We had 14 pigeons in the national top 75! - We had 28 prizes of 32 entered birds - 21 of the 32 entered birds won a prize in the first 10% So it will be probably not exaggerated when people call this result one of the most fabulous ones of the last years. We have arrived at part seven of ‘Great racers’. In this part we will tell you something more about the hen “Alina”(B11-6282258).
The superb hen "Alina"(B11-6282258) “Alina” is an extremely beautiful bird. She is middle sized, very well balanced and has got silky feathers. For us she is a perfectly built pigeon. The results of “Alina” as a youngster were not remarkable. She never missed her prize, she also won some prize cards in the first 5% but she really wasn’t the best youngster of our loft. We gave her however a spot in the racing team of 2012. Her appearance and great origin convinced us. As a yearling and old bird “Alina” showed her class. Especially on the hard national races from 450km till 600km she performed really well. Her best race so far was the national race of Nevers in 2013. Nobody expected that a pigeon from our region could fly a national top position on that race because of the wind direction that day and the eastern location of Nevers in France. “Alina” made the impossible come true. In this sixth part of ‘Great racers’ it is time to present you another hen. It is the black hen “Doha”(B12-6196004). We found inspiration for her name when thinking over some capitals worldwide. The main city of Qatar seemed us a nice name for this bird.
Top hen "Doha"(B12-6196004) As a youngster “Doha” won a lot of prize cards, also on the national 600km races, but she did not win a single top prize. When she arrived home from the 600km races however, she still looked really ‘sharp’. This quality, together her with her super origin and great physique, convinced us to give her a chance in the old birds racing team. She did not disappoint, on the contrary! In 2013 her regularity was rewarded with the title of 4th Provincial Ace-pigeon Fondclub Antwerpen (450-600km)! For those who did not know, in Antwerp we race against famous champions like Gaston Van De Wouwer, Bart and Jurgen Geerinckx, Dirk Van Dijck, Jos and Jules Engels, Jos Joosen, Van Hove-Uytterhoeven, André Roodhooft, Rik Hermans,… Past racing season “Doha” was not only a very regular bird, she also won different top prizes on the national level! Her most remarkable performance was on the national Nevers race. It was quite a hard race. The first pigeons flew hardly 1,200 mpm! “Doha” won on this race 2° National z. Nevers (476km) 633 p. / 4° National Nevers (476km) 2,918 p. ! A loftmate arrived just before her, otherwise she would have won herself the 1° National zone! “Doha” won a.o.: 4th Provincial Ace-pigeon Fondclub Antwerpen (450-600km) 2013 2° National z. In this fourth part of ‘Great racers’ we will be presenting you our blue white flight cock “Rocky”(B12-619295). “Rocky” is a very nice bird. He is rather middle sized and is well balanced. He is very muscled and has got the perfect wing!
Talented racer "Rocky"(B12-6196295) “Rocky” is a member of our talented ‘2012 generation’. In the racing season 2013 he proved his great potential and especially on the national race from Brive (704km) he excelled. This race was released on the 13th of July 2013 after the birds had to stay in the basket during three days. The weather was really hot and there was blowing a strong headwind. In our strong club St. Job “Rocky”(B12-6196295) flew against the old birds and yearlings no less than 16 minutes ahead and this against competitors like Bart and Jurgen Geerinckx, Jos Joosen and Jos Van Olmen! This performance resulted as well in a national top position. For us it is important to see how a pigeon arrives and recovers from a difficult race. Also on this criterion “Rocky” scored very well when he got back from the extremely hard Brive race! “Rocky” won a.o.: 1° Brive (704km) 125 p. (1,053 mpm) 6° National z. Brive (704km) 2,036 p. 42° National Brive (704km) 6,842 p. 3° Blois (462km) 289 p. 35° S.-national Blois (462km) 3,426 p. 13° Chateauroux (526km) 520 p. “Rocky” is again closely related to our superbreeder “Barco”(B01-6387350). His both parents are grandchildren to “Barco”! The mother of “Rocky” is one of our best performing racers. It is the blue hen “Tiga”(B11-6282212). Especially on the hard 600km races she performs really well.

Like mentioned in previous articles, we always breed from our racers in the winter. We want to test the quality of their babies. “Rocky”, being a yearling, immediately bred a very promising youngster, the blue hen B13-6026125. B13-6026125 won a.o.: 4° Noyon (208km) 739 p. 9° Dourdan (366km) 552 p. 19° Dourdan (366km) 774 p. It is quite a special combination: “Tiga”(B11-6282212), “Rocky”(B12-6196295) and B13-6026125 represent three generations and each time there is only one year difference between parent and child! This winter “Rocky”(B12-6196295) has been coupled to our top racing hen “La Strada”(B11-6282176). They can raise one pair of babies. We hope this combination ‘top racer x top racer’ will result in top youngsters! For the season 2013 “Rocky” will be raced on the flights between 600 and 800km. We hope he will do again some super stunts like he did on the Brive race in 2013! |

In part three of ‘Great racers’ the checkered hen “Ines”(B12-6196066) will be presented.
Sensational "Ines"(B12-6196066) “Ines” was the best old bird in Belgium on the last two national races. She won during the last two weeks of the season: 31/08/2013 17° National Nevers (476km) 2,918 p. 07/09/2013 9° National Gueret (590km) 2,626 p.
This means that she won two national top positions in only eight days!
During these last two races “Ines” had a nest of babies. On the day of the Nevers race her babies were only a few days old. When she came back from the Gueret race, her babies were about 11 days old. Apparently this seemed to be the perfect motivation for her. Our hens are motivated during the whole racing season through the widowhood system. Only on the last national races of the season they can build a nest and have eggs. This change of system often results in extra motivation for the last period of the season!
“Ines” is a pigeon that performs especially on the races above 500km. She proved it already when she was a young bird by winning an early prize from the national Argenton (555km) race. Coming racing season she will be entered for sure on the national races between 500 and 700km.
The father of “Ines”(B12-6196066) is “Alkis”(B10-6052312). He is once again a child to basic pigeon “Barco”(B01-6387350). “Alkis” is also grandfather to “Alina”(B11-6282258) who won in 2013 a.o. 1° National z. Nevers (476km) 633 p. / 3° National Nevers (476km) 2,918 p. .
The mother of “Ines”(B12-6196066) is “Denise”(B10-6052550). She is a daughter to our superbreeding couple “Elektro”(B08-6174630) x “Gloria”(B06-6270117). This means “Denis” is a full sister to for instance “Paulo”(B09-6248171) and “Shakira”(B10-6052293).

We have already bred a promising youngster from “Ines”. We are curious how her baby will perform coming season. Now we have coupled “Ines” to our top racer “Lotus”(B12-6196084). One of the coming days she will lay her first egg. They can bring up one pair of babies. Hopefully the children will have the same qualities as their parents! “Ines” is a very beautiful bird. She is rather middle sized and has got silky feathers. She is the type of pigeon every fancier tries to breed! |

In part two of ‘Great racers’ we will present you another crown jewel for racing season 2014. It is the checkered white flight cock “Joker”(B12-6196314).
"Joker"(B12-6196314) is definitely a pigeon to remember for coming racing season As a youngster he received a rather unusual training program. He flew the races of the ‘tour of Belgium’. The system of racing is the following. Each weekend during four weeks the birds are released at a completely different location. It could be at the seaside, which is completely in the western part of Belgium, or in Limburg, which is completely in the eastern part of Belgium. The racing distance is between 75 and 175km. On these four races “Joker” proved to us that he was a talented racer. That is why he earned a spot on the racing loft next to other, much more experienced, yearlings. In the first part of racing season 2012 we were a bit more careful with “Joker”. After all he had not much racing experience yet and we saw a lot of potential in him. And indeed in the second part of the season he really cut loose and showed his skills. On the 10th of August he won the 53° National z. Argenton (555km) against 1,544 birds. Only seven days later, on the 17th of August, he won the 7° National Issoudun (504km) against 5,670 pigeons! The father of “Joker” is “Mickey”(B09-6249988). “Mickey” is a full brother to superstar “Aladdin”(B09-6248081), 1° fast. National Bourges (479km) 64,621 pigeons! The mother of “Joker” is “Zina”(B10-6346673). She is a direct daughter to “Paulo”(B09-6248171). “Paulo” was a great racer and now he is starting to have a very strong impact on the breeding loft! “Paulo” is by the way again a child to “Elektro”(B08-6174630) x “Gloria”(B06-6270117).

He is a bird with a dominant character. the other pigeons know that they should not approach him too much. Furthermore his feathers are really silky and he has got nice muscles. We are no real adepts of the eye sign theory but we do like his eye expression a lot! You can probably understand now why we expect “Joker” to be one coming racing season of our leading birds on the national races between 500 and 600km! |
