Success in South Africa

Today it was time for the first official Hotspot Race in the famous Million Dollar Pigeon Race (South Africa). Initially 4,450 birds were sent to this race. Before this race 2,684 pigeons were still remaining. The birds had to deal with a moderate head wind. Our pigeon “Wer 3”(B15-6026440) ended up as 1° Belgian pigeon and 19° pigeon in the general result!

What is the pedigree of this bird? Her father is a full brother to superstar “Mustang”(B14-6175237), 1° fast. National Chateauroux (526km) 33,018 pigeons! Her mother is our top hen “La Strada”(B11-6282176).

What is the best distance of the birds of the “Elektro”(B08-6174630) line? There is no clear answer for that question. The descendants of “Elektro” are very all round. They win first prizes on fast 200km races, but they win as well the hard 700km races. That is probably the main reason why the off springs of “Elektro” are so successful all over the world!

On our own loft the most famous descendant of “Elektro”(B08-6174630) is probably his grandson “Mustang”(B14-6175237). “Mustang” won as a youngster 1° fast. National Chateauroux (526km) 33,018 pigeons. The year 2015 was his first one on the breeding loft and the results are extremely promising. We think he can become the successor of his two famous grandfathers, “Elektro”(B08-6174630) and … “Barco”(B01-6387350)!

The most remarkable grandchild of “Elektro”(B08-6174630), raced abroad, is probably the cock  PL-0264-13-400, raced by Marek Trzaska (Poland).  He is a real racing monster. 'Golden Ten' auction

Coming weekend we will participate for the first time to the famous ‘Golden Ten’ auction, organised by sport magazine ‘De Duif’.

The third edition of the ‘Golden Ten’ will take place Saturday the 7th and Sunday the 8th of November,  in Hotel Nobis in Asten, the Netherlands. This is a central location that is easily reached via the highway Antwerpen-Eindhoven-Düsseldorf.  It is also possible to spend the night here.

We have selected eight top quality youngsters from our best breeders! They are all ready for upcoming breeding season. In this publication you can find their pictures and pedigrees.

The racing season is officially finished. This means we have more time to bring you some special stories about our pigeons.

It is crystal clear that our bird “Elektro”(B08-6174630) is a very unique breeder. His descendants easily win top prizes on all distances and in all weather circumstances. His off springs do not only perform on our loft but on many other places as well, all over the world.

The – according to us - best bird of Poland is for instance a grandson of “Elektro”(B08-6174630). The owner and racer of this top pigeon PL-0264-13-400 is Marek Trzaska. According to him this bird is the most talented pigeon he ever bred. And if a top racer as Mr. Traska makes such statements, this really means something…

The Polish top fancier Marek Trzaska

PL-0264-13-400 was the youngest bird in his 2013 young birds team. He only flew a few training races in his year of birth. Therefore Mr. Trzaska only expected top results from him starting from 2015 but he immediately excelled in 2014 by winning the following  prizes:

The season 2015 would be his first one as ‘captain of the team’. He did not disappoint at all! Below you can see all his results from this season. His ‘worst’ result was  the 37° prize against 2,430 pigeons … impressive! Especially on the last two races of the season he showed his super class. On two difficult races he won the first prize with a lead of 13 and 9 minutes on number two!

One of our most underestimated breeders is probably “Little Panter”(B08-6144332). His breeding records are very impressive. A direct son to “Little Panter”, “Zorro”(B15-6026003), was for instance crowned last week as 3rd National Ace-pigeon KBDB Middle Distance! Next to his pedigree you can find a list of his best performing children. Also on other lofts his descendants are performing great. You might know that highest amount ever won by a single bird, was won by a 50% Vercammen pigeon. This bird was raced by a Chinese fancier. Well, the mother of this bird is a grandchild to “Little Panter”(B08-6144332)!

The official national KBDB championships have been published! Our sensational youngster “Zorro”(B15-6026003) has been crowned as 3rd National Ace-pigeon KBDB Middle Distance!

For this Ace-title you need 4 top prizes. What is remarkable about “Zorro” is that he won these prizes on his first 4 middle distance races. The weather circumstances were every week completely different which shows his all-round skills.

By the way, his coefficient could have been even more impressive. On two races he was beaten by three loftmates. On the other two races – where he won the 2° and 4° prize – he should have easily won the first prize if he would have better entered the loft.

The father to "Zorro"(B15-6026003) is "Little Panter"(B08-6144332). He is a fantastic breeder, not only on our loft but also on other lofts. The pigeon that won the highest amount ever in pigeon racing, is for example also a descendant of him. "Little Panter" is a son to "Beckham"(B01-6387174) and a grandson to "Barco"(B01-6387350). The mother of "Zorro"(B15-6026003) is "Connie"(B12-6196549). She is a direct daughter to our top bird "Thunderbolt"(B08-6144141).

Great result on the 'Tour of Belgium'

The last national race of the season was Chateauroux (527km) on the 5th of September. This does not mean however that the racing season has come to an end for us.

We are currently participating to the ‘Tour of Belgium’. There are four stages in the Tour of Belgium. You don’t know in advance where the birds will be released. It could be at the seaside, which is completely in the western part of Belgium, or in the province Limburg, which is in the extreme eastern part of Belgium. After all the birds have been basketted, the place of release is determined through a lottery.

The pigeons are always released in Belgium, so these races are real sprint races. Many famous sprint racers participate to these flights. Some of our opponents are Lambrechts Cyriel (Berlaar), Lambrechts Carl (Berlaar), Van Hoof August (Bevel), Smits (Berlaar),…

We have entered on these races a bunch of very unexperienced youngsters. They flew their very first short distance only in September! By flying the races of the tour of Belgium they gain a lot of experience in a short time frame. Every year we keep the very best youngsters on this races for our old birds racing team. This method pays off! Our super birds “Joker”(B12-6196314) and “Shakira”(B10-6052293) have for instance flown the ‘Thour of Belgium’ as a baby!

This morning the bird were released in Tongeren (80km), located in the east of Belgium. The weather was beautiful!

Super end of the national racing season

Also on the last national race of the season was a great success for us! We started with the 2° National Chateauroux (527km)! Also the week before we started with the 2° National on the Issoudun (504km) race. This is quite exceptional, especially when you take in mind that the wind was blowing from the north-west on the Chateauroux race and from the opposite direction (south-east) on the Issoudun race. Of course we would have preferred 2x 1° National instead of 2x 2° National, but luckily we won two times 1° National zone!

Our pigeon “Eva”(B14-6175226), who won 2° National Issoudun (504km) the week before, was again in the head of the race. She was our fourth arrival and wins again an national top position. She is a granddaughter to “Elektro”(B08-6174630).

Our second, third and fourth arrival are all grandchildren to our fantastic breeder “Elektro”(B08-6174630)!

The last days we have received some interesting references from fanciers who race well with the Hok Jos Vercammen pigeons.

Mr. Green from Taiwan sent us this message:

Thank you for your pigeons. I am your Taiwanese fan. This year I got Ace title 2nd. More than 3,000 pigeons were competing for the Ace title. In a very short period 5 races are organized. In the final race the  pigeons need to fly at least 300km over the sea. I finally won 2^nd (5 races result). Another reference arrived from the Netherlands. The combination Van Rooij (Tull en ‘t Waal) won 1°, 2°, 3°, 4°, 5° and 6° against 3,552 pigeons from the Duffel (110km) race. Four of these six birds have the Hok Jos Vercammen blood in their vains! Three are coming from a half-sister to our top racer “Lotus”(B12-6196084). The other one is descending from a full brother to “Joker”(B12-6196314).

The same day we received another Dutch reference, from the father-son combination Verbart (Baarlo). A bird of them won 1° Troyes (367km) against 531 pigeons. This bird is a grandchild to our pigeon “Casino”(B11-6282003). “Casino” is again a child to our top breeder “Elektro”(B08-6174630)!

Dominating the races in tough circumstances

We had two races past weekend, the middle distance race Souppes-sur-Loing (357km) and the national race Argenton (555km). The release on Saturday was postponed till Sunday because of the bad weather forecasts. This means the birds of Souppes-sur-Loing had to stay the basket during two nights, the birds of Argenton during three nights. Keeping the strong headwinds in mind, you know those two races were going to be hard. Our birds did a great job on both races!

The first prize was won by the dark hen B15-6026272. This beautiful bird is a granddaughter to our top breeders “Barco”(B01-6387350) and “Elektro”(B08-6174630). The coupling child “Barco” x child “Elektro” has already bred many top racers.

Our third arrival was B15-6026284. This checkered hen is daughter to our new superstar “Mustang”(B14-6175237). Another child to “Mustang”(B14-6175237), the dark hen B15-6026165, was early in the race too. These two sisters are performing really great! The least you can say is that the breeding results of “Mustang”(B14-6175237) look very promising. We have bred six babies of “Mustang” for the races. We coupled him with three different hens to have a better look on his breeding potential.  After the training races, five of them were still present on our loft. All five children of “Mustang” have won early prizes! We are looking forward to how these children will perform as a yearling.

B14-6175019 won on the previous race 83° National Tulle (657km) 8,621 pigeons. On the Argenton race she wins 75° National against 2,418 birds. B14-6175019 is a granddaughter to “Beckham”(B01-6387174) and “Elektro”(B08-6174630).

Top results on Tulle and Souppes with a small team

Due to the bad weather forecasts past weekend, we entered only a few birds on the races. Our best young and old birds stayed at home.

There was a storm wind from the West to North-West blowing on Saturday. The least you can say is that this is not a favourable wind for us in our federation or province. Our birds did however a great job by winning the following result:

Our first arrival from the national Tulle race was B14-6175241. This checkered hen was one of our best young birds last year. Her father is “Thunderbolt”(B08-6144141). “Thunderbolt” is a very good breeder at our loft. He is for instance grandfather to B15-6026003, who will be fore sure amongst the KBDB national ace-pigeons this year. The mother of B14-6175241 is “Elodie”(B11-6282062). “Elodie” was a top racer herself by winning a.o. a 1° Semi-national Blois (462km) 1,108 pigeons. “Elodie” is a very fine breeding hen. A grandchild of her was for instance a top performer last year in China. This bird won the highest sum ever won by a single bird in the history of pigeon racing.

Early prizes on hard Jarnac (697km) race

Past weekend there was only one national race. We entered 3 old birds and 6 yearlings on the national race Jarnac (697km). It was a very tough race. The pigeons arrived in the evening. The race was closed only one day later in the morning!

Our 1st nominated with the old birds and our 1st nominated with the yearlings were both in the head of the race!

Our first nominated with the old birds and first arrival was “Minou”(B12-6196326). A lot of early prizes on the tough national Brive (704km) race

Two weeks ago we entered some of our racing cocks on the national long distance race Brive (704km). It was a tough race. The pigeons arrived in the early evening. Our pigeons flew a lot of top prizes! We entered 9 old birds and 14 yearlings. They won the following result:

Our first arrival was the checkered cock B14-6175156. He wins 1° Brive (704km) 218 pigeons with a lead of no less than 19 minutes on number two (our own bird) and a lead of 24 minutes on number three. On the national level he wins the 35° National against 9,049 yearlings! He is a direct son to our top racer “Hulk”(B13-6026138).

Our second arrival was the checkered cock B14-6175235. He is a direct son to our top hen “Latina”(B10-6052292). “Latina” is a daughter to our worldfamous breeder “Elektro”(B08-6174630). B14-6175235 won as a youngster 1° Gueret (590km) 507 pigeons / 69° National Gueret (590km) 16,619 pigeons. It was a very hard race. Now he won the second prize, only beaten by his loftmate. He is for sure a talented bird for the long distance races!

Our first old bird was our top racer “Hulk”(B13-6026138) himself. He wins the 12° Provincial Brive (704km) 741 pigeons. Last year he was sensational by winning as a yearling two top prizes on the long distance in a short period of time. Some weeks ago he arrived back home severely injured. He was most probably caught by a hawk. Luckily he recovered quickly. Now on his first 'real' race after his injury, he wins immediately a top prize!

“Hulk” seems to be a very promising breeder. In 2014 we bred two children from him for the races. They have both already won top prizes.  On this Brive race his son won the 1° prize! Our youngsters keep dominating the races. This weekend they had once again a phenomenal result on the middle distance race Souppes-sur-Loing (357km)! They won the following result:

Top result on tough La Souterraine race

Because of the high temperatures last weekend all the races for young birds were cancelled. There was only one race remaining for us, the national La Souterraine (593km) flight. We entered 3 old birds and 6 yearlings, all racing hens. We kept our star racers like "Ariana"(B14-6175056) and "Bambi"(B13-6026001) however at home. The pigeons were only released on Monday which means they had to stay 4 (!) nights in the basket.

Our pigeons won the following top result:

Provincial 315 old birds: 5, 8, 18 3/3

Provincial 472 yearlings: 10, 14, 15, 17,… 6/6

Despite the high temperatures and the 4 nights of basket, our pigeons looked very sharp when they arrived!

What about the national races this weekend? Our racing hens stayed at home after 4 national races in a row. We entered some racing cocks on the national Argenton (555km). It was their first national race after not being entered on important races for some weeks. Their main goals this season are the national races Brive (704km) and Tulle (657km). We had some early prizes. The prize percentage could be better, but that might be normal because of their period of inactivity.

Yesterday Dirk De Lodder contacted us. He told us that he bred two babies from this top hen in 2014. One of them, the hen B14-3077717, won past weekend 1° Provincial Chateaudun (347km) 2,299 pigeons! It’s quite unique to breed a provincial winner out of a provincial winner. The nest-brother of the provincial winner, the cock B14-3077718, won this year also the 1° prize from Fontenay (311km)!

There were also two national races past weekend, Montlucon (555km) and Limoges (675km). For our hens it was their fourth national race in four weeks: Bourges (479km), Chateauroux (526km), Gueret (590km) and Montlucon (555km).  We had a very high prize percentage again. On Montlucon we had 5 prizes from 7 entered old birds and 23 prizes from 28 entered yearlings. This weekend we had however not those ‘super early’ prizes like we had the weeks before. Did the birds miss that bit of ‘sharpness’ because they raced 4 consecutive races? We started with the 133° National against 16,982 birds. Our first arrival was the blue hen B14-6175141. She is performing really well this season! As a youngster she won already 42° National La Souterraine (593km) 18,588 pigeons! In her pedigree you can find all our best breeding birds. On Limoges we had 2 prizes from 3 entered birds.

Next week there will be two national races: Montélimar (737km) and Argenton (555km). Our hens will stay at home coming weekend, except for 3 hens who will fly Montélimar. Our racing cocks will go to Argenton. Our youngsters will fly a middle distance race.

Last weekend was the third weekend of the national racing calendar. We entered our birds on the national Gueret (590km). Due to the upcoming winds from the West to South West, most of the early birds were located in the easterly part of Belgium. For the record: we live in the middle of Belgium. However, our birds did again a great job! We won the following results:

As a youngster she already won 1° Gien (410km) against 1,028 pigeons / 14° Provincial against 6,446 pigeons. This was a very tough race!

Next week there will be two national races. We will enter a few birds on Limoges (675km). Our racing hens will be going to Montlucon (555km).

National top weekend (part 2/2)

The national Chateauroux (526km) race was not the only one last weekend.

On the national Valence (693km) race we entered 5 hens. It was a very hard race. On the national level only one bird flew faster than 1,100 mpm.

National top weekend (part 1/2)

Last weekend we had four races: Chateauroux (526km), Valence (693km), Souppes-sur-Loing (357km) and Noyon (208km). The first three races took place on Saturday, the Noyon race was flown on Sunday. The two national races Chateauroux and Valence were no easy flights. In France the birds had to deal with headwinds.

We entered our racing hens on the national Chateauroux (526km) race, 7 old birds and 29 yearlings. They flew a fantastic result!

Overview Limoges, Bourges and Souppes

Last weekend we had the first two national races of the weekend, Limoges (675km) and Bourges (479km). We also entered some birds on Souppes-sur-Loing (357km).

There was a strong wind blowing from the West to North West. On the national Bourges (479km) race our region had no chance at all to have early birds on the provincial or national level. All the early birds are located in the east. In our club St. Job we had a very good result. We were only beaten by fanciers  who are located significantly more easterly . With the wind circumstances of past Saturday they had a considerable advantage. We can be happy about the way our birds arrived. They came home like a train and looked very ‘sharp’.

First prize on Chalon-sur-Saône!

We will quickly summarize our results from past weekend. We had two races, Chalon-sur-Saône (484km) and Souppes-sur-Loing (357km).

We entered six hens on the semi-national race Chalon-sur-Saône (484km). It was not an easy race. Especially in the last part of the race the birds had to deal with dark weather and headwinds. The velocity of the first birds was far below 1,200 mpm.

On the provincial level we start with the 14° Provincial against 1,276 pigeons. On this level we have 6 prizes on 6 entered birds, which means a 100% score!

Top result on first middle distance race of the season

After a difficult start of the season due to the bad weather circumstances, we could finally race our pigeons on Souppes-sur-Loing (357km), the first middle distance race of the season!

There was a strong upcoming tailwind. We live in the fore fly of our federation, so we didn’t have the best location at all. We were only defeated with a handful of seconds by two fanciers who are racing at the longest distance of our federation.

Our birds normally prefer hard weather circumstances. They did however a marvellous job and proved to be ready for the upcoming national races!

Our third arrival was B14-6175060. So far she has been our most consistent bird, keeping in mind the training races as well. This blue hen is a granddaughter to our top breeder “Elektro”(B08-6174630). As a youngster she won already 5° Gueret (590km) 507 pigeons.

Our fourth pigeon was B14-6175163. This beautiful hen is a daughter to our top racer “Origi”(B13-6026050). “Origi” is without any doubt one of the most talented long distance birds in Belgium. Already as a yearling he flew top prizes on three long distance races. Especially on the Limoges-Brive double he was outstanding. He won the first provincial on the tough Limoges race (after five nights of basket). Only ten days later he won again the first prize on a very hard Brive race. The temperature rose to 37°C and the birds had to deal with headwinds. In such a short time frame “Origi” won two first prizes on two hard races from 675km and 704km!

One of the best fanciers in Poland is without any doubt Marek Trzaska. This weekend he had again a phenomenal result on Glogow (182km). The pigeons had to deal with strong headwinds.

Taiwanese pigeon racing is often regarded as one of the most difficult competitions in the world. Pigeons need to fly at the age of only six months hard races over the sea. Flying during 300km a few meters above the water before reaching the mainland is no rarity for the Taiwanese youngsters.

This year’s spring edition was a very hard one. The competition in the federation Tao Yen started with 5,500 pigeons. In a very short period five races are organised. The maximum distance is 400km. Remember that the pigeons need to fly at least 300km over the sea!

Mr. Chu had the 6th Ace-pigeon in this extreme hard competition. This bird won about 80,000 Euro for him. This pigeon is a grandchild to our top hen “Latina”(B10-605292). “Latina” is a direct child to our top breeder “Elektro”(B08-6174630).

Another success with the Hok Jos Vercammen pigeons

One of the positive aspects about pigeon sport is that you get into touch with interesting people all over the world. One of those people is the very sympathetic Dr. Burkhard Krause from Germany. He introduced some Hok Jos Vercammen pigeons on his breeding loft and the result was fanatastic!

Dr. Krause has got a long partnership together with his friend Dr. Klaus Giesbert. Since 2004 Dr. Krause doesn’t participate any longer to the races. He now focuses on the breeding of top birds.  The youngsters he breeds are placed on the racing lofts of Dr. Giesbert. This way of working has been very successful so far! In 2009 Dr. Krause wanted to introduce some new blood on his breeding loft. He wanted to add birds who are able to win races in difficult weather circumstances. That is why he wanted to have Hok Jos Vercammen pigeons.  He acquired three Vercammen birds and we must say that the results are really great!

His first top Vercammen breeder is “Porthos”(B09-6248416). This blue cock is a direct son to “Porto”(B03-6287006), 4th National Ace-pigeon KBDB Middle Distance. “Porto” is a full brother to “Mambo”(B08-6144041). This bird “Porthos” is a very good breeder. He is for instance father to the hen DV0187-11-552. She is one of the best birds of Dr. Krause and Dr. Giesber. She was a very consistent racing hen and has won many top ten positions!

Also the grandchildren of “Porthos” are performing really well. One of them is the talented DV0187-13-910. As a yearling he was crowned in 2014 as the best yearling cock in the federation. Another grandchild, DV0187-13-1147, was ranked in the same year as best yearling hen in the federation. On the final race DV0187-13-1147 won the 4° prize in the federation from Wels (600km).

We’ll give you one more example to show what kind of top breeder “Porthos” is. In 2014 Dr. Krause and Dr. Giesbert were 1st Champion of their federation in the category yearlings. The birds responsible for this victory are all grandchildren to “Portos”(B09-6248416)!

Another top breeder is the hen B09-6248595. She is a daughter to our famous breeder “Mitu”(B02-6058048). This hen has bred amongst others the cock DV0187-12-747. According to Dr. Giesbert this is the best bird they have ever had. Already in 2013 he became 1st Ace-pigeon in the federation.

Three children of “Daughter Mitu”(B09-6248595) were responsible for winning the 2nd place in the difficult championship of the ‘Ruhrgebiet’. This region is known for its hard competition. About 1,800 fanciers are participating.  You need to have top results on the three regional races. The first race is +400km, the second +500km and the last one +600km. These races are very popular. In the past an entry of 50,000 pigeons has not been exceptional!

Success with the Hok Jos Vercammen pigeons

We receive a lot of messages from fanciers who have top results with off spring of the Hok Jos Vercammen pigeons. It would lead us too far to publish them all, but some of them are that special that we want to share them with you.

Dirk and Bart De Lodder from Waregem (Belgium) are professional contractors. In the year 2010, during one of their construction works, they discovered an injured pigeon. It appeared to be a pigeon of our loft. They contacted us and we agreed that they could breed from this bird after it had recovered. This bird became father of the hen B11-3041046. That time Dirk and Bart did not have a clue yet that this hen would turn into one of the best birds they have ever had.

In her year of birth, B11-3041046 flew only some training races. As a yearling she wasn’t entered on the races. It was only in 2013 that Dirk and Bart De Lodder started to race old hens, so B11-3041046 had to stay in the aviary for a year.  It was a risk to put her on the racing loft after a complete year of inactivity, but they were really convinced about the qualities of this bird. In order to put her back on track, she was only raced on the short distance in the season 2013. She won three times a top 10 position! In 2014 she put herself in the spotlights by winning amazing records, on all distances and in all weather circumstances

Flashback to 2014! (part 1)

The new season is approaching. So it is high time to look one more time back to the best moments of the season 2014!

The national Limoges race (675km) on the 7th of July 2014 will go into the history books as one of the best results we have ever raced. It was a very tough race. The birds were only released on Monday which means that the birds had to stay in the basket during five nights. The temperature rose to 30°C.

We knew that our pigeons were in a good condition. But the way how our birds destroyed the race that day  was really sensational … some people even said this was an unique performance in the history of Belgian pigeon racing … Super early pigeons, good nominated birds in front, high prize percentage … it  was really exceptional! We won with the old birds 1° + 2° + 3° Provincial, with the yearlings we won 1° + 2° Provincial!

Our pigeons won the following results:

Provincial 517 old birds: 1, 2, 3, 11,…  10/11

Provincial 634 yearlings: 1, 2, 11, 16,…  9/11

National z. 2,174 old birds: 1, 2, 10,…  10/11

National z. 2,298 yearlings: 5, 8,…  9/11

We had the 1°, 2°, 3°, 4° and 5° fastest bird in the province Antwerp against 1,151 pigeons!

The birds responsible for this overwhelming result are clearly no ‘one-hit-wonders’. We will give you now some more details about them.

Our first arrival was our top pigeon “Turbo”(B12-6196094). Earlier in 2014 he won 3° Provincial Limoges (675km) 1,417 pigeons / 1° Limoges (675km) 367 pigeons. Now he wins 1° Provincial Limoges (675km) 523 pigeons / 1° National z. Limoges (675km) 2,174 pigeons!

“Turbo” is a direct son to one of our best and most famous pigeons of the last decade, namely “Beauty”(B05-6234009). “Beauty” won as a baby 2° fast. National Argenton (555km) against 30,045 pigeons and developed later on into a fantastic breeding hen. The father of “Turbo” is “Spartacus”(B08-617636). “Spartacus” is on his turn a son to famous “Leeuw”(B03-6277418) from Wouters. He is closely related to our superstar “Aladdin”(B09-6248081), 1° fast. National Bourges (479km) 64,621 pigeons.

His mother is “Melody”(B09-6248063). “Melody” is the grandmother to “Lotus”(B12-6196084) who won the second provincial on this race! “Melody” is by the way a half-sister to “Turbo” who won the first provincial on the same race!

Now we will switch over to the category of the yearlings. Here we won the first and second provincial with our two first nominated birds!

Our first yearling was the  blue cock “Origi”(B13-6026050). He won the 1° Provincial Limoges (675km) agaist 634 pigeons. “Origi” is without any doubt one of the most talented long distance birds in Belgium. Already as a yearling he flew top prizes on three long distance races. Especially on the Limoges-Brive double he was outstanding. As already said, he won the first prize on the tough Limoges race (after five nights of basket). Only ten days later he won again the first prize on a very hard Brive race. The temperature rose to 37°C and the birds had to deal with headwinds. In such a short time frame “Origi” won two first prizes on two hard races from 675km and 704km!

Great success again in South Africa

This weekend the final race of the illustrious South Africa Million Dollar Pigeon Race (SAMDPR) was flown. The racing distance was 521km. It was a very hard edition. The pigeons had to deal with high temperatures and heavy rain showers.The same day only 16 birds returned to the lofts!

Our pigeon “Mo Chuisle”(B14-6175436) was one of the favourites for this race. She did not disappoint at all! She has won the difficult Knock-Out Competition. The winner of this competition is awarded no less than US$ 25,000! What are the rules of this competition? You can read it below.

The first timed remaining Knock Out Pigeon will win US$ 25,000.

The Knock-Out Challenge is a very difficult competition to win. The first races are short distance races so the pigeons need to be fast enough to win early prizes. The last two races – and especially the final race – are very hard. The pigeon who wins this competition has to be fast AND strong at the same time. In the beginning there were almost 5,000 birds competing for this competition. Only one bird could win it and it was our pigeon “Mo Chuisle”(B14-6175436) who did it!

She won the 1° prize on the hardest race ever flown in Thailand and she became 1st Ace-pigeon with big lead!

Another top performance of our pigeon on One Loft Races can be found in Poland. Our pigeon “Cobra”(B14-6175418) was one of the top pigeons in the Rogowo One Loft Race (Poland). She is a full sister to our new superstar “Mustang”(B14-6175237), 1° fast. National Chateauroux (526km) 33,018 pigeons. We were lucky to buy “Cobra” back. She is now breeding at our loft.

The Thailand One Loft Race is known - and even a bit notorious - for its high difficulty level. Almost 2,000 pigeons were sent this year. For the final race only 377 birds were remaining. Only the best and strongest bird can prevail!

We often get the question: “Which bird is the best Vercammen pigeon?” That is not an easy question to answer because opinions can be different. Every person has got his own criteria to choose the ‘best pigeon’ of a loft. For us it is very difficult to pick out one racer. Nevertheless, if we had to choose just one bird to be our favourite racing bird, we (Jos and Lars) would both go for “Lotus”(B12-6196084).

At the end of 2013 we already wrote this about “Lotus”(B12-6196084):

In our opinion this bird is sheer class. He is first of all a very beautiful bird. People who have already handled him were all impressed. He is rather middle sized with a very nice wing. “Lotus” has got super muscles but he’s not heavy, a perfect combination for a long distance topper. Secondly he is a very talented racer. In 2013 he convinced us of his great potential by winning several top prizes on the +500km races. Especially on the race from Tulle he showed that he can make the step to absolute top Belgian long distance racing. He won the 6° National Tulle (657km) against 6,972 pigeons. We will never forget the way he arrived from this 657km race. It was like a rocket that entered the loft. He was not tired at all, he looked like he just flew a short distance race. For us this is an important feature. We do not like pigeons that fly one early prize but are totally exhausted and do not recover quickly. Thirdly “Lotus” has got a great origin. You need top birds to breed top birds, it is simple like that.

Also in the racing season 2014 “Lotus” excelled. Especially on the +650km races he was top. The more difficult the race circumstances were, the better “Lotus” performed. He was for instance a part of the super team that crushed the Limoges (675km) race. It was probably the most sensational result in Belgium during the racing season 2014. The birds needed to stay five days in the basket and had to fly in difficult weather cirumstances.

"Jaguar"(B10-6346648) is the father to "Lotus"(B12-6196084)

What is the origin of “Lotus”? His father is “Jaguar”(B10-6346648), a direct son to “Beckham”(B01-6387174). “Jaguar” is a late bred, born in September 2010. He was too young to couple in the first part of 2011, so he bred his first youngsters in 2012. In fact, the first youngster he bred was “Lotus”! “Jaguar” is a very nice pigeon and has got the body of a real athlete. You can easily notice that “Jaguar” and “Lotus” are father and son, they are the same type of pigeon! The mother of “Lotus” is “White Spirit”(B08-6174629). She is the nest-sister to our super breeder “Elektro”(B08-617630). A remarkable thing about “White Spirit” is that she is a completely white pigeon!

You can call the behaviour of “Lotus” very unique. He is not the kind of bird that is fighting all the time, he is rather calm. But when he lands on the floor, all the other pigeons step aside. His loft mates have apparently accepted his dominance. Most of the time he is just sitting in his cage. When we enter the loft, he doesn’t move. Only when we look him in the eyes, he flies out immediately. Very special!

We believe that the racing season 2015 can be the ‘crown’ on the racing career of “Lotus”. The combination of his great physical qualities and his gained experience during the years, will make him a difficult bird to beat on the long distance races.
