We sometimes get the question: ‘Can your birds also handle the extreme long distance races?’ As we race at our own lofts till maximum 750km, we can’t test it ourselves, but we get testimonials from fanciers who were successful on the extreme long distance with off springs of the Hok Jos Vercammen pigeons. So was the Japanse pigeon friend Mr. Kazuo Iwai successful on the very long distance with a Vercammen bird.
In Japan there is every year a big national race, they call it the ‘Champion race’. It is a national race with an average racing distance of about 1,000km. For the Japanese fanciers this race is one of the highlights of the season.
Mr. Kazuo Iwai won a top prize on this race with a 50% Hok Jos Vercammen pigeon. The father is a direct Vercammen bird, the blue cock B16-6032328. He is a descendant of our basic pigeons “Barco”(B01-6387350), “Beckham”(B01-6387174) and “Mambo”(B08-6144041). These birds were known to have a very good endurance. Even in tough or bad weather circumstances their descendants are able to return quickly to their loft.
