On the short distance he also made his mark by winning several top prizes. One notable example was a Noyon (208 km) race that turned into a two-day basket due to bad weather on Sunday. On Monday the birds faced a beautiful sunny race with headwinds from start to finish. Together with his loftmates, “Olympic Turbo Ito” won 1° + 2° + 3° + 4° + 5° fast. Noyon against 6,672 birds! In his next Noyon race, “Olympic Turbo Ito” arrived all alone. It was a fast race, and he was perfectly placed to be the overall fastest again. However—his only weak point being that he sometimes hesitates to trap—he kept circling for several minutes. In the end he landed together with a loftmate and had to settle for 2° against 870 birds (after loftmate).
He also demonstrated his qualities on the middle distance. He won, for example, 2° Orléans (402 km) against 2,614 pigeons in a tough race, narrowly beaten by a bird that later became a national ace. Earlier this year we wrote: “In 2025's pigeon racing scene, dominated by hens in two-night basket races, our checkered cock "Olympic Turbo Ito" (BE23-6062091) proves to be an extraordinary exception.” In Belgium, races of 300 km and more are always two-night basket races. These are generally dominated by racing hens.
Did “Olympic Turbo Ito” also perform as a youngster? He most certainly did! He flew one national race as a young bird and won 43° National Bourges (504km) 20,328 pigeons. That same year he also won 15° fast. Provincial Noyon (208km) 5,511 pigeons.
What were the preferred weather conditions for “Olympic Turbo Ito” (BE23-6062091)? He excelled in tough races, where it was easier for him to distance himself from the competition. But he also achieved top results when the average speed exceeded 1,600 m/min.
Here is another remarkable anecdote about “Olympic Turbo Ito” (BE23-6062091). In the summer of 2025, we were honored by a visit from the renowned Mr. Lai, a Taiwanese pigeon fancier who is widely regarded as a true legend in both China and Taiwan. During his visit, he asked to examine “Olympic Turbo Ito”(BE23-6062091), and he was deeply impressed by this exceptional pigeon. According to Mr. Lai, the bird possessed all the qualities he looks for in a top-class breeder. He repeatedly inquired about the possibility of transferring “Olympic Turbo Ito” to Taiwan, but we politely declined. The fact that such a highly respected pigeon expert gave his full approval only reinforced our conviction that we truly have gold in our hands with “Olympic Turbo Ito” (BE23-6062091).
